Foundation Repair Photo Album: Maintaining Wall Anchors and Sump Pumps
This home in Florissant, MO. was experiencing large cracking and damage to the foundation walls. This was caused by the natural expansion and contraction of the soil around the home due to weather conditions. These cracks can create further damage to the foundation walls and could even lead to a collapsed wall. They can also allow water to leak into the basement.
To fix this problem, homeowner Alma C. had previously had Woods Basement Systems install wall anchor system. Wall anchors work by connecting an exterior anchor buried in the tough soil outside to a metal plate on the inside. By tightening this connection, the wall gets support from the anchor and can even be straightened back to its original position.
Woods Basement Systems technician Clay L. performed a maintenance check on the system to ensure that the anchors were still supporting the wall. During that check, Clay L. also took the opportunity to improve the existing sump pump system by installing a new battery-powered backup pump. The extra pump will kick in when the power goes out to keep the basement dry.
With the wall anchors and sump pump checked and in good condition, Alma C. won't have to worry about her basement leaking or cracking more.
Wall Anchors Near the Crack
The plates on the wall on the right are the plates that connect to the anchors outside and support the wall.
Large Crack
This large crack formed from pressures from the outside pressing inwards. As soil gains water it can expand and put pressure on foundation walls, causing cracks like this.
Supporting a Large Crack
This large crack was forced inwards by pressure from the soil outside. The wall anchor system will prevent this crack from expanding and by stopping the wall from being pressed inwards further.
Checking the Sump Pump
This sump pump system was installed previously to pump any water collected by the drainage system out of the home.
Improving the Sump Pump
By adding a new UltraSump™ battery-powered sump pump, this sump pump system will be able to continue to protect the basement even when the power goes out.
