Foundation Repair Photo Album: Sinking Foundation In Historic St. Louis Home

This album showcases a beatiful, century-old home in South St. Louis city that was showing very worrying signs of a settling foundation. The foundation of the home's front porch was shifting noticeably downward, and action needed to be taken to prevent any further damage to the brickwork and the home itself. Woods Basement Systems foreman Brad P. and his team did just that. They installed four Push Piers underneath the front porch in order to make it level again. These supports, made of galvanized steel, will remain underneath the structure to provide additional reinforcement into the future. The home is now just as gorgeous as it was in 1910!

Even at a distance, there is visible cracking in the brick on either side of the staircase.

In this photo the damage is much more obvious. The stairs are badly cracked and beginning to separate from the porch and from each other. There is also separation occurring in the bricks and limestone blocks to the left and right of the stairs.

This photo is quite alarming, showing just how severe this foundation settlement has gotten. The front portion of the porch is severely shifted, and previous repair attempts can be seen in the limestone at the base of the window frame and continuing down into the brickwork.
