SmartJack® XT Support System and SaniDry™ XP Installation in Alton, IL
Challenge
J.H. in Alton, IL had a basement with a support system that was not doing what it was designed to do. The supports could not handle the weight being placed on them by the home above, which would likely cause more problems later on if not dealt with soon. Her basement was also a damp place that could not control the humidity levels well. J.H. called Woods Basement Systems, where Systems Design Specialist Brandon Bax came out to design a solution based on her needs. J.H. needed a solution that would prevent the floor above the basement from bowing, and a solution that would help control the humidity in her basement.
Solution
The best solution for J.H. was to install a new supplemental beam and the SmartJack® support system, and a SaniDry™ dehumidifier.
Foreman James Long came out with his team to perform the installations. The team first attached the new support beam segments to the underside of the floor above the basement. The team excavated small square holes underneath the beam where the supports would be placed. In these holes the posts were embedded in the earth to ensure maximum support and the holes were back-filled with concrete. The posts were then adjusted to apply the needed pressure on the support beam to keep the floor stable and prevent any more damage from occurring.
The team also installed a SaniDry™ XP dehumidifier, which is an upright basement dehumidifier capable of removing over 100 liters of water per day. The dehumidifying system was installed with a small discharge line, ensure that J.H. would never need to empty the machine of water.
Now, J.H. enjoys a basement less humid, and a reliable support system for her home.
