Push Pier Installation in Florissant, MO
Challenge
This homeowner in Florissant, MO had several common signs of a foundation problem such as stair-step cracking and a large crack in his concrete floor. He had noticed the cracks years ago, but did nothing about the problem, thinking that his home was done settling. However, a home is never “done” settling and is constantly shifting and moving. Because of this, the cracks became larger, and now the homeowner wants to get his foundation problems permanently taken care of.
Solution
Woods Basement Systems installed Push Piers by Foundation SupportWorks in order to solve the problem. Push Piers are the best solution when the home needs to be lifted back toward its original position. Oftentimes, this closes cracks and improves the operation of doors and windows. There is minimal disturbance from the installation, and it's a quicker process compared to other solutions.
Soil is first removed from the area where the pier will be driven. A heavy-duty steel bracket is installed against the foundation's footing. The piers are then hydraulically driven through the bracket to bedrock or a stable soil layer. The weight of the home is transferred through the piers to the stable soil below, and the home may be lifted back toward its original position. Push Piers can be installed from the inside or outside of the home. When the installation is complete, the soil is backfilled and the home is stabilized in its current position.
The resident was very pleased with the work done by Woods and no longer has to worry about his foundation settlement problems.
