Foundation Settlement in Florissant, MO
Challenge
This resident of Florissant, MO could see various signs of foundation settlement around his home. Outside of his house, he saw stair-step cracks in which the vertical cracks had widened, indicating that the wall was rotating outward. He also noticed that many of the doors and windows were coming out of square, separating from the framing, or had cracks extending out from them. Slab settlement had also occurred in the concrete floor, resulting in large cracks and even chunks separated from the slab completely. The resident wanted to attempt to close all the cracks and solve his settlement issues.
Solution
Woods Basement Systems installed Push Piers around the outside perimeter of the home. Push Piers are made of steel and are driven deep into a stable layer of soil. They can be installed from the interior or exterior of home and provide and opportunity to lift the home back toward its original position. This usually closes cracks and improves the operation of doors and windows. Push Piers permanently stabilize the home and have a quick installation time compared to other solutions.
In order to fix the slab settlement, Woods installed deep-driven Slab Piers. Slab Piers are steel piers that are driven deep below the floor slab to a stable layer of soil. They use small installation equipment, so they can be installed in small areas such as bathroom or laundry rooms. Slab Piers provide an opportunity to lift the concrete slab back to its original position, oftentimes closing cracks and eliminating trip hazards.
