Push Piers Fix Gaping Hole in Granite City, IL
Challenge
What started out as a small problem became much bigger when this Granite City, IL resident neglected to take care of it. An entire portion of the concrete wall separated and began settling, creating a gaping hole in the basement wall. The portion of the wall that cracked and separated away settled around 2 inches into the ground. The homeowner finally decided to take care of the issue before letting it get even worse.
Solution
Woods Basement Systems installed Push Piers in order to solve the problem. Push Piers are the best solution when the home needs to be lifted back toward its original position. Oftentimes, this closes cracks and fixes and doors or windows that might be jamming. There is minimal disturbance from the installation, and it's a quicker process compared to other solutions.
Soil is first removed from the area where the pier will be driven. A heavy-duty steel bracket is installed against the foundation's footing. The piers are then hydraulically driven through the bracket to bedrock or a stable soil layer. The weight of the home is transferred through the piers to the stable soil below, and the home may be lifted back toward its original position. Push Piers can be installed from the inside or outside of the home. When completed, the installation will be completely covered and the floor will be neat and clean.
The resident was very happy with the finished product and felt relieved that he no longer had to worry about a gaping hole in his basement wall.
