Rusty Entrance
From the outside of the home, the vent leading into the crawl space was rusted. This signals that water would leak into the crawl space through this vent.
Inside Crawl Space
Once inside, the crawl space walls had shown cracks which were created by the pressure of water continuously hitting the wall. Another clue water had been in the crawl space was the fallen insulation above the vent. Water makes a tight, compact area humid and musty. The humidity is then captured by the insulation, which makes the padding heavy causing it to fall.
Soaked Floor
Not too far away from the vent, a water leak that had soaked the crawl space floor was found.
Susceptible for Mold
The wood on the crawl space also created concern that mold would develop. Water can cause wood rot and mildew, and this would form a health concern because the air that upper levels of the home holds first enters through the crawl space.
