CleanSpace and SaniDry Restore Philo, Illinois Crawl Space

Challenge

Philo, Illinois homeowner Janice E. was distraught by water leaking into her crawl space. The water seepage caused mold and dust mites to overtake the space. Due to the stack effect, these allergens enter her living space. She attempted to dry the crawl space with fans, but was unsuccessful. At that point, she called Woods Basement Systems for a solution. System design specialist Greg B. visited Janice’s home to determine the best solution.

Solution

Foreman James L. and his team began restoring Janice’s crawl space by installing the CleanSpace crawl space encapsulation system. CleanSpace is an inorganic vapor barrier. It prevents water from entering the crawl space while preventing mold growth. CleanSpace guides water to the SmartPump sump pump system which pumps the water away from the home.

James and his team also installed SaniDry. SaniDry is an energy efficient dehumidifier. When the relative humidity is above 50%, mold and dust mites thrive. SaniDry keeps the humidity levels low without hiking energy costs.

With these solutions, Janice’s crawl space is not only dry, but it is free of allergens like mold. Her home is now healthy and comfortable, and she no longer has worries of water in the crawl space.

This photo shows the high humidity levels before the installation of the SaniDry dehumidifier. Relative humidity above 50% is the perfect environment for mold and dust mites to thrive.

Another photo of the Philo, Illinois crawl space shows how easily water could flow into the space beneath the home. A new vent cover was installed to prevent water from flowing into the crawl space.

This photo of the old sump pump shows how it was easily clogged with debris from the crawl space. The SmartPump sump pump system was installed. It is sealed, so water cannot escape back into the crawl space, and debris cannot clog it.

The SaniDry dehumidifier keeps the relative humidity of the crawl space low without hiking energy costs.
