Crawlspace Encapsulation in Urbana, IL
Challenge
Staffan F. had a crawlspace that could not keep the dampness out. Steffan contacted Woods Basement Systems, where Systems Design Specialist Greg Birckbichler came out to design a solution based on Steffan's needs.
Solution
The best solution for Staffan was to install the CleanSpace® vapor barrier on the crawlspace floor, install the SmartPump™ sump pump system, and line the perimeter walls with SilverGlo™ insulation panels. Also installed was a radon mitigation system to ensure Staffan's home would be safe from high radon levels.
Foreman James Long and his team came out to install the CleanSpace® vapor barrier, the SilverGlo™ insulation panels, and the crawlspace sump pump. The team installed the sump pump in the lowest point in the crawlspace, then installed the SmartPipe system around the perimeter of the crawlspace, which will collect water and transport it to the sump pump to be expelled from the home. After the pump and SmartPipe were installed, the team installed a drainage matting throughout the crawlspace on the floor. The drainage matting allows some air to circulate underneath, and allow for any moisture underneath to make its way to the SmartPipe to be transported to the sump pump. Over the top of the drainage matting went the CleanSpace® vapor barrier. The vapor barrier is sealed together for a seamless look throughout the crawlspace floor. The vapor barrier will help control the moisture entering the crawlspace through the crawlspace floor. The team then installed the SilverGlo™ insulation panels, which would help control moisture coming from the cement block walls.
Foreman Gregory Jones came out to install the radon mitigation system, which includes a fan to collect the radon gas seeping into the crawlspace through the dirt floor and depositing it back into the atmosphere outside where it belongs.
Now, Staffan can enjoy a basement with controlled moisture and radon levels, while being insulated from the cold or warm air outside.
