Concrete Leveling in Blue Mound, IL
Challenge
This homeowner in Blue Mound, Illinois, had some concrete slabs behind his home that were sinking. The concrete slabs against the home had sunk on the side toward the home, meaning water could collect against the home. There were also large gaps between the slabs. The homeowner called Woods Basement Systems, where Systems Design Specialist Gregory Birckbichler came out to design a solution based on his needs. The homeowner needed a minimally invasive solution that would level the concrete slabs. He also needed the gaps between the slabs filled in to blend the slabs together.
Solution
The best solution for this homeowner was to use the PolyLevel® polyurethane foam to raise and level the concrete slabs, and the Nexus® Pro surfacing compound between the slabs to blend them together and restrict the growing of weeds and grass between the gaps.
Foreman Andrew Teter and his team came out to complete the project. The team cleared the area of debris, and swept the area of leaves, dust, and other obstructions.
After the area was prepared for the products, the team drilled holes 5/8" in diameter in the slabs to insert the injection ports. The dust from the drilling was removed and kept for later. The injection ports were inserted into each hole. The PolyLevel® injector was placed on each port and the foam was injected, raising the slab to the point where water would run away from the home. The injection ports were removed, and the team mixed together a new batch of cement to fill the holes. The cement dust from the drilling was mixed in with the fresh cement, which would help give the cement a similar color to the slab once dried, for a blended finish. The holes were filled in with the fresh cement to finish the slab raising.
The Nexus® Pro surfacing compound was injected between the slabs, and carefully leveled using a special trowel to finish the project.
