Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Waterproofing Systems Around the House
This home in Cape Girardeau, MO. was experiencing a lot of leaking in the basement. Water would leak in through the windows, the walls and even through the corners of the floors. This water would leak inside where it could cause damage to the basement and anything stored inside. The water could also evaporate into the air, where it could rise through the house and make the whole home less comfortable and less energy efficient while also increasing the risk of mold growth throughout the entire home.
To put it simply, this home needed some waterproofing.
Foreman Michael D. and his crew went to the home to install several waterproofing systems that would improve the health of the home and keep it protected from flooding and water damage. The first thing the home needed was a new perimeter drainage system. WaterGuard™ was installed inside, just above the footing. WaterGuard™ is a perimeter drainage system that is designed to collect water from below the floor before it can rise into the basement. It also has a built-in gap between the floor and the wall that allows it to catch leaks that seap through the walls before they can puddle up on the ground.
This perimeter drainage system would funnel the water it collected into the sump pump system to be removed from the home. For this leaky house, a TripleSafe™ was installed which would keep up with even the most serious water levels thanks to the power of its three seperate pumps. These pumps can work individually, each one turning on to help when water levels get too high for the one before. The third pump is also a battery powered backup pump that can turn on even when the power goes out. The TripleSafe™ sump pump system will expell water from the sump pit through two discharge lines and outside through the IceGuard™ system. IceGuard™ is an attachment added to the discharge lines that allows water to continue to escape from the sump pump in the event that the end of the discharge line is blocked with ice or debris. This is important as, without this, the sump pump could get backed up due to blocked discharge lines, which would flood the basement.
The team didn't stop there. Michael D. and crew also installed waterproofing systems around the windows of the basement to keep the area dry and prevent water from building up in the window wells. The WellDucts™ they installed would drain water from the window well before it could build up enough to leak through the window. This water flows through a covered channel and into the WaterGuard™ system at the floor. For extra protection, a cover was installed at the top of the window wells and egress window that would block rain from entering the area without stopping any light and making the basement feel darker.
After all these systems were installed, a Sedona dehumidifier was added as a final measure of water proofing proteciton. The Sedona is a powerful dehumidifier that will keep the air dry and remove water vapor that might enter the basement. By keeping the air dry, the Sedona will ensure that water cannot condense on cooler surfaces in the basement and get items wet regardless of the other waterproofing systems. The drier air will also improve the energy efficiency of the entire home and help combat mold growth throughout the house.
Thanks to the hard work from Michael D. and his crew, this home went from a leaky hazard to a waterproofed and safe home.
Old Drainage System
Sometimes drainage systems are installed during the construction of the home. They are often cheap and installed outside the home, in the dirt. These systems will eventually fail and clog, leaving the home unprotected.
WaterGuard™ Beneath a Finished Wall
WaterGuard™ can be installed beneath finished walls such as this to protect them - and the rest of the room inside the walls - from water damage and flooding.
TripleSafe™ with Battery
The TripleSafe™ sump pump system features a battery powered backup pump that can kick in even when the power goes out to keep the basement dry and protected.
Three-Pump System
The TripleSafe™ has three individual pumps in one package. These pumps can work individually or together to keep basements dry.
WellDuct™ Beneath a Window
This gray cover hides a protected water channel that drains water from the window well and carries it to the WaterGuard™ drainage system in the floor. With a WellDuct™ installed, water won't be able to build up in the window well and leak in through the window.
Protected Egress Window
This egress window is protected from flooding and water build up by two WellDucts™ that will drain water from the window well and direct it into the perimeter drainage system.
Egress Window Cover and IceGuard™
This clear cover over the egress window will prevent rainwater from falling into the window well where it might otherwise leak inside. Next to the cover is a pair of IceGuard™ protected discharge lines. IceGuard™ will ensure the basement doesn't flood due to frozen or blocked discharge lines.
Sedona Dehumidifier
This powerful dehumidifier will help improve the health and efficiency of the entire home by wringing the air dry and filtering out unhealthy particles like mold spores and dust mite droppings.
