Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Adding a Sump Pump and Discharge Line
This home in Robinson, IL. had an unprotected crawlspace beneath the home. Though it did not often experience high water levels, it needed a sump pump to deal with any water that collected in that area.
Technician Dwayne M. went to the home and installed a SmartSump™ to deal with any water that built up in the crawlspace. The SmartSump™ features a special sump pit liner that collects water through tiny holes below the ground but prevents water from evaporating into the crawlspace air. It also features a floor drain that will collect any water that enters the crawlspace from above the sump pump. Finally, the SmartSump™ has a WaterWatch™ alarm that will alert homeowners to dangerously high water levels or leaks in the crawlspace.
The water this sump pump expels travels through a discharge line and outside to the IceGuard™ attachment. IceGuard™ is a specially designed system that is installed in the discharge line just outside of the house. IceGuard™ will let water flow normally to the end of the discharge line when the line is clear, but will allow water to exit the line in the event that the end of the line is clogged by ice or debris. This is important as, without such a system, the water in the discharge line could back up all the way to the sump pump and cause a flood. Once through the IceGuard™ attachment, the water pumped out by the sump pump travels away from the home through a buried discharge line until it can be poured out far enough from the home that it won't leak back inside.
With the new sump pump and discharge line, the homeowners will have one less thing to worry about when it comes to their crawlspace flooding.
Dirty Crawlspace
Crawlspace with dirt floors like this are more than just unclean, they're unprotected from water leaks. Many thing can be done to improve the crawlspace's health, including adding a sump pump.
Old Sump Pit
This dirty hole in the ground is where the new SmartSump™ will go. The SmartSump™ will be able to help protect this crawlspace from flooding.
SmartSump™ Installed
This SmartSump™ unit will collect water from below ground before it rises into the crawlspace thanks to a specially designed sump pit liner.
IceGuard™ Attachment
The cone near the wall is the IceGuard™ attachment that will prevent the crawlspace from flooding in the event that this discharge line gets blocked.
Carrying the Water Away
This discharge line will cary the water a safe distance from the home to be drained away. It is important not to end the discharge line right next to the home as the water would simply leak back inside and need to be pumped out again.
