Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Inspecting Waterproofing Systems
Homeowners in Champaign, IL. had previously hired Woods Basement Systems to install several waterproofing systems including a new sump pump and perimeter drainage system around part of the home. Recently, these homeowners scheduled an appointment with Woods Basement Systems to perform an annual inspection and maintenance check on these waterproofing systems.
Technician John L. was able to come to the home and check the waterproofing systems. On his checklist was the WaterGuard™ perimeter drainage system and SmartSump™ sump pump system. WaterGuard™ is a carefully engineered drainage system that collects water before it can rise into the gap between the floor and the wall and flood the basement. This drainage system dumps the water it collects into the SmartSump™ to be pumped out of the home. The SmartSump™ is an upgrade to the standard sump pump thanks to several features. Most important in the SmartSump™ is the pair of pumps. A main sump pump will do most of the work while a second, battery-powered pump will kick in if water levels get too high or if the power goes out and the main pump can't operate. The SmartSump™ also features an alarm that can alert homeowners to dangerous water levels or leaks coming from inside the house such as plumbing leaks. All of these features are contained in a single package with an air-tight lid. This lid will keep water from evaporating into the basement air if it sits in the sump pit too long.
John L. inspected these systems and was able to replace the main pump in the SmartSump™ to ensure that the sump pump would be in the best possible condition and keep the basement as safe as possible. But John didn't stop there, he also inspected waterproofing systems that were not installed by Woods Basement Systems. This included a floor drain that was likely installed during construction of the home and a dehumidifier unit that was tied into the sump pump system.
With all of these systems checked and in working order, the homeowners can rest easy knowing their waterproofing systems have been inspected and are working to the best of their abilities - even the systems that weren't installed by Woods Basement Systems.
SmartSump™
During a maintenance inspection, all the elements of the SmartSump™ are checked, including the main pump, backup pump, flood alarm, sump liner and lid and the battery that powers the backup pump.
Dual Pumps
The green pump near the bottom is the main pump that will keep the basement dry and remove water from the sump pit in normal conditions. Piggybacking onto it is the white UltraSump™, a battery-powered backup pump. This pump can turn on to assist the main pump when water levels get too high, or can turn on when the power goes out to give around-the-clock flood protection.
SmartSump™ and WaterGuard™
This corner of the basement is protected with WaterGuard™, a perimeter drainage system that will collect water before it can leak into the basement, and SmartSump™, a sump pump system with battery-powered backup pump.
Floor Drain
This floor drain was not an additional product installed by Woods Basement Systems. All the same, during a maintenance inspection this drain will be checked to make sure it is working.
Dehumidifier with SmartSump™
This dehumidifier is not the type that Woods Basement Systems installs, but it does tie into the sump pump system to drain water without having buckets of water that fill up and need to be emptied. During a maintenance inspection of the waterproofing systems this dehumidifier will be checked to make sure it is still working and draining properly into the sump pit.
