Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Utilizing Several Waterproofing Options
There are many different ways to help waterproof a basement. Sometimes one method for protecting a basement is enough, sometimes better protection requires more methods. In this home in Urbana, IL. multiple different strategies for waterproofing were used.
Inside the home, WaterGuard™ was installed to prevent any water from leaking into the basement through the gap between the floor and the wall or through small gaps in the wall itself. The water it collects gets drained into the TripleSafe™ sump pump system. The TripleSafe™ is a powerful sump pump system that features three seperate pumps. The first two pumps will work to keep water out of the basement during even the heaviest of rains while the third pump acts as a battery backup that will kick in when the power goes out to keep protecting the basement. Finally, a dehumidifier will collect moisture from the air, preventing it from condensing inside the home and dripping off cooler surfaces like air ducts. The dehumidifier is connected to the WaterGuard™ system so that it can drain its water instead of filling up and shutting off.
Outside the home, downspouts from the rain gutters are extended to carry water further away from the home. This is done to prevent the water from simply soaking down into the ground next to the foundation, where it might leak inside the basement. The discharge line from the sump pump system is also buried and extended away from the home for the same reason. In the event that the end of the discharge line gets blocked by debris or frozen shut with ice, water will still be expelled from the sump pump through the IceGuard™ attachment. IceGuard™ will prevent the basement from flooding because of a blocked discharge line and overflowing sump pit.
This home in Urbana, IL. opted for greater waterproofing protection by installing the some of the best waterproofing features inside and outside the home.
WaterGuard™ Along the Bricks
Brick walls can often leak through tiny gaps in the bricks or the mortar. Fortunately, WaterGuard™ can collect these leaks thanks to the extension that reaches up the wall.
WaterGuard™ Installed Inside
WaterGuard™ is installed against the wall just beneath the floor. From here, it can collect water dripping from the wall as well as any water that builds up beneath the floor.
TripleSafe™ Three Pump System
The TripleSafe™ system features three seperate pumps that can work together to keep the basement dry.
Dehumidifer Tied into WaterGuard™
This dehumidifier is connected to the WaterGuard™ perimeter drainage system. This will allow the dehumidifer to drain any water it collects into the sump pit without the homeowner needing to empty buckets.
IceGuard™ Protected Lines
These discharge lines come from the TripleSafe™ sump pump system inside. The water will normally pass through the IceGuard™ attachments and into the pipes, but if the end of the pipes gets blocked or frozen shut, water will still be pumped out of the basement through these attachments.
Extended Discharge and Downspout
The dischrage lines from the home are exteneded away from the foundation to keep water from simply seeping back inside. The downspout is similarly extended for the same reason.
