Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Half Wall Restoration in Stauton, IL.
Homeowner Raj J. wanted to have a good looking and waterproofed finished basement in his home in Stauton, IL. While normal drywall finished walls look nice and work well in most of the home, drywall is not designed for basements. That's because these walls are not waterproof or durable. If water gets into the basement it will rot the wooden studs and feed mold growth across the surface of the wall.
That's why Clay L. from Woods Basement Systems uses our vinyl-covered concrete walls. These walls are durable and tough, while also being waterproof and mold-resistant. The wall won't get damaged by water because it is not made of wood and the surface won't grow mold because it is not an organic material. The vinyl cover is finished in a pleasant color that doesn't requrie paint. That means the color won't get washed off or discolored in the event of flooding.
To install this half wall, the bottom half of the original wall is removed along with the bottom section of the wooden studs. This section of the studs is replaced with a metal bracket that won't rot or grow mold in the event of a flood. Then the wall panels are installed before the whole area is finished with a plastic trim. This trim looks as nice as wood but, because it is inorganic, it won't rot or grow mold like wooden trim would. The result is a nice, finished wall that not only looks good, but is totally water resistant. To make it even better, waterproofing systems can still be installed behind the finished wall to further protect the basement without the homeowner ever needing to see them.
Now this home can keep its finished look and Raj can relax knowing that this look won't get ruined even if his basement floods.
Removing the Bottom Half
The bottom of the finished wall and the wall studs is removed so that there is no organic material that might rot supporting the new wall panels.
Metal Studs on Bottom
The lower section of the wooden studs is supplemented with metal studs. This metal won't rot or grow mold in the event of a flood like the wooden studs would.
Finishing with a Plastic Trim
The floor boards and trim is made of a plastic material designed to not only look good, but also be totally waterproof.
Color without Paint
The vinyl coating of these wall panels does not use paint, making the panels totally mold resistant. Even if there was a flood, the homeowner would simply need to wipe the boards clean. No need to replace the wall.
A Finished Room
Once everything is installed the room has a great finished look while also being waterproof.
Waterproofing Systems Behind the Walls
These walls can also hide waterproofing systems like CleanSpace™ wall liners or WaterGuard™ behind them. This can make the entire basement waterproof without the homeowner even being able to see the waterproofing systems.
