Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Upgrading Waterproofing Systems
There were several waterproofing systems in this home in Olivette, MO. that needed to be upgraded.
Outside the home, the gutters would catch rain water and drain it through the downspouts away from the foundation. But these downspouts wouldn't carry the water far enough away. By extending the downspouts so they connect to the discharge line from the sump pump the rainwater is carried further away from the foundation and puddles won't be created in the yard where the downspouts end.
Inside the home, the sump pump was due for an update. While the original pump included the two main pumps and a battery-powered backup pump, it did not have all the features of the TripleSafe™ sump pump that the homeowner needed. A new TripleSafe™ was installed, featuring the tough sump liner that can collect water from around the sump pit as well as from the drainage system. It also features an air-tight lid that will prevent any water in the sump pit from evaporating into the home.
The biggest change is the addition of an extra drainage line. While the original pump forced water through just one discharge line, the new TripleSafe™ pumps water through two different discharge lines. With just one line, the amount of water that the two pumps could remove was limited to the amount of water the one pipe could accept. The second discharge line means that both pumps can work at full capacity if needed to keep the basement dry.
Finally, the new TripleSafe™ system features a flood alarm to alert homeowners of leaks coming from inside the house like plumbing leaks. It also has a floor drain to collect those plumbing leaks and a new battery to keep the battery-powered backup pump going in the event of a power outage.
While this Olivette, MO. home had waterproofing systems in place, there was plenty of room to improve the protection this home had.
Extending Downspouts
Keeping gutters clean and extending downspouts can help keep rain water from pooling up by the foundation of the home.
Downspouts Going Underground
While some extension options for downspouts simply sit on the ground, underground extensions can carry the water away from the home without unsightly pipes or tubes sitting on top of the yard.
The Original Pump
While this pump seems to feature multiple individual pumps and a battery backup pump, it does not have all the protective features of the TripleSafe™
Upgraded to the TripleSafe™
The new system has a second discharge line as well as a new sump liner and lid that will keep water in the pit from evaporating into the basement air.
TripleSafe™ Sump Pump System
The TripleSafe™ features three seperate pumps that can remove water from the home even when the power goes out.
