Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: WaterGuard™ Works with Block Walls

This home in the Southhampton neighborhood of St. Louis was constructed with block walls in the basement. These walls may have many perks, but one drawback they often experience is leaks through the gaps between the blocks. This water can drip down the wall and puddle up on the basement floor or soak into objects leaning against the walls. Water can also swell up from beneath the foundation and leak through the gap between the wall and the floor.   To deal with these issues, Brett J. installed WaterGuard™. WaterGuard™ is a specially designed drainage system that collects the water from around the foundation and dripping down the wall and directs it all to the sump pump to be drained out of the home. WaterGuard™ is installed on top of the footing, just beneath the floor. This is the ideal place for a drain system. Systems that sit next to the footing are placed in mud and require filter fabrics. Over time, those filters clog and the drainage system won't work anymore. No filters means no clogging for WaterGuard™. When it's installed, WaterGuard™ gets surrounded by smooth stone that keeps dirt and debris from entering the system without impeding water flow.   Because of its placement, WaterGuard can also collect water that could drain from the walls. Other systems are totally beneath the floor, so drips from the wall end up puddling on the floor, but WaterGuard™ has a specially designed wall gap that allows water from the walls to flow into WaterGuard™ while blocking any dirt or debris that might be brought with it.    Once the water is inside WaterGuard™ is can travel through the high-volume pipes into the sump pump to be removed from the home.
