Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Waterproofing a Room in Springfield, IL.
Mark M. from Springfield, IL noticed that one of the rooms in his home was frequently leaking water. Water would leak in through the bottom of the door, beneath the floor, or even through gaps in the block walls.
To fix these issues, he turned to Todd G. from Woods Basement Systems. Todd G. knew the first step would be to install a drainage system to deal with the water that leaked in from below the floor or by the door. The product Mark needed was WaterGuard™. WaterGuard™ is a unique water drainage system that rests on top of the footing to quickly drain away water rising from below. It also has a unique design that connects it to the wall, allowing WaterGuard™ to also drain away any water leaking through the walls.
The floor was dug up and WaterGuard™ was installed along the perimeter to collect water from any of the areas that were leaking. But even if it could collect water that leaked through the walls, it couldn't keep the walls from feeling wet. That's why CleanSpace™ was installed along the walls. This tough, waterproof liner would keep moisture seeping in through the wall from entering the room. Instead, the water would be channelled down into the WaterGuard™ system. Now, the inside of the room would stay dry, even the walls.
The final step in making the basement feel dry and comfortable was to combat the damp air that circulated inside. A Sedona air dehumidifier was installed to do just this. The Sedona can dry out up to 100 pints of water from the air in a single day! All this water gets dumped into the sump pump so that it can be pumped out of the home. This means no more emptying buckets full of water in order to keep the dehumidifier running. On top of that, the Sedona would also filter the air, removing even the smallest particles like mold spores from the air.
With WaterGuard™ and CleanSpace™ working together to keep the walls and floors dry and a Sedona dehumidifier taking care of the air, Mark M. would have a comfortable basement space without having to worry about water leaking into his basement.
Installing WaterGuard™
WaterGuard™ is installed at the base of the wall, right above the footing. This postioning keeps it out of the mud while still being able to channel any water rising up from below or any water leaking through the wall into the sump pump system.
CleanSpace™ installed into WaterGuard™
The white liner on the walls is CleanSpace™. It will funnel any water leaks through the brick walls down into the WaterGuard™ system at the bottom. The two systems could be installed independently from one another, but are even better together.
Replacing the Floor
With WaterGuard™ and CleanSpace™ installed, the concrete is replaced, making the floor look smooth and finished once again.
Finished Installation
When everything is done, the floor is replaced and the waterproofing system is hidden from view.
Old Dehumidifier
Not only is this dehumidifier inefficient, but it also uses a bucket to collect the water. When the bucket is full the dehumidifier turns off, letting the room get damp again.
Sedona Dehumidifier
This dehumidifier is incredibly energy efficient and can also filter the air, getting rid of things like dust mites and mold spores. Not to mention it never gets full!
