Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Adding CleanSpace and Fixing Discharge Pipes
A homeowner in Urbana, IL. wanted to make sure she had the very best protection for her basement.
In addition to switching out her old sump pump for the TripleSafe™ sump pump system, Mary M. installed CleanSpace™ behind the drywall in her basement. CleanSpace™ is a durable, waterproof liner that can be permanently fastened to basement walls to protect against moisture and mold. The liner directs any water seepage down the wall and into the drainage system that leads to the TripleSafe™ pump.
While CleanSpace™ will keep her walls safe, it does not protect against Radon, a gas that occurs naturally beneath homes and can rise into the house. Radon build up can be dangerous as it is invisible and odorless and is the leading cause of lung cancer behind smoking. Fortunately, foreman Cory S. knew the best way to mitigate radon build up. Cory installed a piping system and fan to direct the Radon gas that built up below the floor out and above the house where it could dissipate safely.
As a final measure, Cory installed a second discharge line with IceGuard™ so that there will always be at least one discharge line removing water from the basement. Clogged or frozen pipes are no longer an issue fore the IceGuard™ attachment, which can keep water flowing out of the home even if the end of the pipe is blocked. While installing the IceGuard™ line, Cory also took the opportunity to seal a gap that had formed around one water discharge line to prevent leaks in that pipe.
Mary M. won't need to worry about water damaging her drywall thanks to the CleanSpace™ wall liner and she won't need to worry about harmful Radon build up thanks to her Radon mitigation system.
CleanSpace™ Liner
This liner can be installed behind drywall to keep basement walls.
The TripleSafe™ System
This amazing three-pump system can even work when the power is out!
Radon Piping
This pipe directs harmful Radon gas in the basement outside where it is safe.
Radon Fan
This small housing holds a fan that pulls Radon gas out of the basement and directs it above the house.
A Gap Around the Discharge Line
The wall around this water discharge line has slowly degraded. This could eventually cause breaks and leaks in the pipe.
All Fixed Up
The gap between the wall and the pipe is sealed up with Flexicaulk.
The Old Drainage Pip and IceGuard™ Pipe
The pipe on the right is the original drainage pipe while the one on the left is an IceGuard™ protected discharge line to keep water draining even in freezing conditions.
