Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: WaterGuard™ and a New Sump Pump
David and Charity H. of Carterville, IL needed a better way to protect their basement from water leaking in from outside. Foreman Dave P. knew just the remedies they needed.
In a basement such as theirs, water can often seep in the crack between the wall and the floor, as well as through small gaps in the walls. The first step is making sure that any water that does come from those areas is diverted to the sump pump so that it can be pumped back outside.
The first step was to make sure that all the water that seeped in through the crack between the floor and the ceiling and through any gaps in the walls all went to the same place. The obvious answer was to install our CleanSpace™ wall barrier. This neat white barrier is permanently attached to the walls and is totally water-tight as well as being highly durable. Any leaks in the walls will run on the other side of the barrier, keeping everything inside dry - even if it's leaning on the walls!
The water that leaks through the walls was now directed toward the floor, where it would collect with the water that seeped through the small crack between the floor and the wall. The next step was to direct this water to the sump pump so it could be expelled from the basement.
To do this, Dave P. and his crew dug a trench right where the wall meets the floor and installed WaterGuard™. WaterGuard™ is a drainage system that channels the water along the trench and into the pump in high volumes without the need for filters that could clog. Once the system is in place, the crew recovers the area with concrete so that there is no unseemly gap between the wall and the floor.
Finally, all the water is directed toward the TripleSafe™ sump pump system. This system sports three different pumps to ensure that water is being pumped from the basement no matter how much is coming in. The TripleSafe™ sump pump features a primary pump with a secondary pump that kicks in when water levels rise higher than one pump can handle. Finally, a third, battery-powered pump can kick in to help the first two or when power goes out so that you're covered no matter what.
David and Charity H. now have a protected basement that will stay dry in all kinds of conditions.
No Vapor Barrier
The unfinished walls and floor here can leak water into the basement. Something needs to be done!
Unprotected Basement
With no vapor barrier on the wall, that crack can leak water into the basement. And there's no pump there to expell it!
Drainage Ditch
To install the WaterGuard™ system, a ditch is dug out next to the wall.
Water-tight Walls and Finished Floor
The CleanSpace™ vapor barrier is installed on the walls and the WaterGuard™ drainage system is under the floor.
The TripleSafe™ Pump is in!
All the water from the drainage system needs somewhere to go. The TripleSafe™ pump will send it outside, even when the power goes out.
TripleSafe™ sump pump with CleanSpace™ vapor barrier
The TripleSafe™ pump is in and a vapor barrier is installed behind it to direct water from the walls down into the pump.
Finished Vapor Barrier
CleanSpace™ offers a nice, clean white surface that keeps basements dry. The owners can even stack things against the wall without worrying about them getting wet!
