Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Waterlogged, Century-Old Brick Foundation Basement Before Waterproofing
The following album showcases just how bad water issues can get in a basement if left unchecked. This century-old Foosland, Illinois farmhouse's brick foundation basement would fill with several inches of water any time it rained, rendering the space essentially useless and leading to mold and air quality issues. The water was also wreaking havoc on the brick columns in the basement and wearing away at the morta. Something needed to be done to preserve the home. In order to waterproof the space, a Woods Basement Systems team installed under-floor WaterGuard drains at the base of the walls to catch leaks and a TwinPack sump pump to remove those leaks from the home.
Water Pooling
You can see just how much water was making it into the space.
Half-an-inch Deep
Yes, that is water you're seeing at the bottom half of the photo. Clearly this basement was in dire need of help.
Worthless Sump Pump
A sump pump's primary function is to remove water from a space. This sump pump was obviously not doing its job properly.
Close-up
This photo shows a more clear view of the pooling water in the space. All of this moisture was terrible for the brick columns as it was wearing away at the mortar.
