Hydrostatic Pressure
During heavy rains, the pressure of water collecting in the soil outside of the basement becomes heavy and powerful. This pressure placed on the wall is called hydrostatic pressure. Hydrostatic pressure results in the movement and shifting of the basement walls, creating cracks and gaps for water to leak through.
What can water damage do?
Water damage is destructive to a home's foundation. Over time water will weaken the structure of the wall causing it to shift, crack, or bow (or all three). Foundation repairs are costly and time-consuming, so it's essential to get to the root issue of the problem to prevent paying more in the long run.
