Basement Waterproofing in Springfield, IL
Challenge
Jessica D. of Springfield, Illinois, decided this year was the best time to waterproof her basement. She called Woods Basement Systems, where Systems Design Specialist Gregory Birckbichler came out to inspect Jessica's basement and design a solution based on her needs. She needed a solution that would keep her finished basement dry all the time, especially in torrential weather and power outages.
Solution
The best solution for Jessica was to install the WaterGuard® drainage system, the TripleSafe™ sump pump system, and the EverLast® half-wall restoration panels.
Foreman Ryan Lovell came out with his team to install the WaterGuard® drainage system and the TripleSafe™ sump pump system. Jessica already had a sump pump pit in her basement, which was in the prime location for a sump pump. The team modified the area to prepare for the TripleSafe™ sump pump system. This included resizing the pit. After the pit was ready, the team prepared the basement perimeter for the WaterGuard® drainage system. First, the area around the perimeter was jack-hammered out. The concrete shards and dust were cleaned out, and small river rocks were then layered down. On top of the rocks, the team installed the drainage system. The drainage system consisted of large, hard plastic tubing, with openings on the back to collect water coming from underneath the footing and special wall flanges to collect and control water coming from the walls. The WaterGuard® would direct any water in the system to the sump pump pit. After the WaterGuard® drainage system was placed, the team back-filled the remaining area around the perimeter with more small river rocks, and topped it off with fresh concrete, which was leveled carefully.
The TripleSafe™ sump pump was the last to be installed in this part fo the project. The TripleSafe™ sump pump system consists of a primary pump and a secondary pump, both set at alternate levels, ensuring the second pump only operates in two cases: when the first pump fails, or when the first pump becomes overloaded. The TripleSafe™ also includes a battery back-up sump pump that operates during the power outages during severe storms. Once the sump pump system was installed, the team back-filled the remaining area with the small river rocks, and topped it off with fresh cement, which was, again, carefully leveled.
Once the WaterGuard® drainage system and the TripleSafe™ sump pump system were installed, foreman Dillon Lovell and his team came out to install the EverLast™ half-wall restoration panels. These panels are waterproof and durable, and allow for easy maintenance and removal. The panels were attached to the drywall in the basement, and added a nice touch to the basement environment.
Now, Jessica enjoys a finished basement that is also waterproofed, so her mind can be at ease, knowing her home will be secure.
