Basement Waterproofing/Cleanspace® Installation in Dorsey, IL
Challenge
Tyler A. needed a basement that was better protected against water and moisture. Tyler called Woods Basement Systems, where Systems Design Specialist Paul White came out to design a solution based on Tyler's needs. Paul recommended a more reliable sump pump, a dehumidification system to help control the humidity and moisture in the basement, and a vapor barrier to further control the moisture coming through the basement walls.
Solution
The best solution for Tyler was to install the TripleSafe™ sump pump system, complete with the WaterGuard® drainage system, the SaniDry™ CX dehumidification system, and the Cleanspace® wall vapor barrier. These products together would help keep Tyler's basement dry, and also help control the moisture and humidity levels. This will be especially useful if Tyler would like to use his basement in an effective manner.
Foreman Melvin Foster and his team came out to install all the products that would make Tyler's basement more ideal for him. Tyler had an existing sump pump located in a square pit. The team drilled into the concrete next to the existing sump pump to make room for the new sump pump liner. The sump pump could not be installed in the existing location, due to the size and shape of the pit.
The WaterGuard® draining system was installed next, where the perimeter of the basement was jack-hammered out to make room for the WaterGuard® system. A layer of clean stones were laid down, where the draining system was placed over top, with a layer of stones on top to back-fill the area. The WaterGuard® draining pipes have flanges on the back of them to collect water coming down the basement walls, and openings on the back to collect the water from the wall-floor joists.
Before the fresh concrete was filled over the stones, the TripleSafe™ sump pump was installed in the new liner, complete with an air-tight lid to prevent odors and vapors from leaking in through the floor. Two discharge lines were installed for both of the pumps within the TripleSafe™ sump pump. The pumps are on stands of different heights, so the second pump only operates when the first pump is overworked. the TripleSafe™ sump pump also has a battery back-up, which operates the pump during power outages in severe storms. After the sump pump was installed, a layer of stones were placed around the area to prevent silt and sediment from entering the sump pump liner. Finally, concrete was poured and leveled around the perimeter to finish the installation of the sump pump and draining system.
The team then installed a CleanSpace® vapor barrier around the perimeter of the basement. Tyler had unfinished basement walls, which made this product perfect for his needs. This waterproof barrier will keep moisture from seeping through the basement walls, which will help control humidity in his basement. The team mechanically fastened the vapor barrier to the wall, so it will not fall off, so all moisture coming through the wall will be directed to the draining system and the sump pump. Should Tyler want to finish or upgrade his basement in the future, the CleanSpace® is a great first step to doing so.
Almost finished, the team installed a SaniDry™ CX dehumidification system. The SaniDry™ CX is a self-draining system, so Tyler will not need to constantly empty it. And, the dehumidifiication system can be adjusted to the desired humidity level, so it will only be used when it is above the allotted amount.
Now, Tyler can enjoy a basement that can be used for his intended use, without worrying about moisture and high humidity, and a basement in which he is protected from heavy rains.
