Wet Basement in Charleston, IL
Challenge
A young couple in Charleston, IL had recently purchased their home when they began having foundation settlement issues. Their paved driveway was cracked and cracks were appearing in the foundation walls. During heavy rains, water would enter in through the cracks, causing the basement to flood. What started out as a small problem quickly became something that needed to be fixed as soon as possible.
Solution
Woods Basement Systems first attempted at closing the wall cracks by installing Push Piers around the outside perimeter of the home. Push Piers are made of steel and are driven deep into a stable layer of soil. First, a bracket is installed below and against the foundation’s footing. Steel piers are then hydraulically driven through the bracket to bedrock, and the weight of the home is transferred through the piers to the soil below. They provide the best opportunity to lift the home back toward its original position, and the have a quick installation time compared to other products.
Woods also installed WaterGuard and a TripleSafe sump pump in order to permanently waterproof the basement. WaterGuard is a piping system that sits on top of the footing rather than beside it, so it does not become clogged with dirt and debris from below. This non-clogging system along with a TripleSafe, offer complete protection in keeping the basement dry.
The TripleSafe is the world’s most reliable pumping system. If the first pump fails, pump 2 automatically kicks in. If pump 1 cannot keep up with the amount of incoming water, pump 2 turns on and both pumps work together. If the power fails, a third battery operated pump gets the job done. It also has a WaterWatch alarm system that sounds if the water rises above the range of the pumps, warning the resident before any damage occurs.
The residents were highly satisfied with the work done by Woods and now enjoy a dry basement.
