Groundwater Seepage Repaired With Outside Excavation — Effingham, IL
Challenge
A small theater in southest Illinois developed a leak along one wall of their auditorium. It was along the sloping floor leading to the stage and screen. The entry and lobby were on a slab but the seating area natural slopes but the floor there was very thick and reinforeced with rebar. Attempting not to disturb the remodeling timeline for the inside we did a full excavation along the exterior of the building's wall.
Solution
We did a full excavation along the exterior of the building's wall. We applied a vertical durable water barrier on the wall to the bottom of the trench. For the exterior sump pump pit we used a length of black corrugated culvert. Two six inch drain tile piping were layed in the trench after some rock was placed first. Notice the filter fabric used on the soil side of the trench opposite the wall. This impedes dirt from getting into the trench and drainage system. The trench was backfilled with more rock and the sump pumps were installed. We installed a Zoeller M-137 sump pump with IceGuard® and drainage line.
