Damp, Unfinished Storage Space
Before Woods Basement Systems started this project, this Kirkwood basement was a damp, unfinished storage space. The homeowner stored period wardrobes and historical memorabilia in her basement, but cracks in the walls, water leaks, and mold threatened to ruin such valuables.
Basement Café & Laundry Room
The washer and dryer in this Kirkwood, Missouri basement are incorporated into the kitchen space and seem to fit right in.
Preparing Unfinished Basement for Bathroom Remodel
Existing basement plumbing made a bathroom addition a possibility. But first, the basement would need to be waterproofed and existing wall cracks would have to be repaired.
Transforming a Basement Laundry Room into a Café
This area of the basement served as the laundry room and storage space for period dress. Woods Basement Systems would remodel and repurpose this space into a basement café. The washer and dryer would stay, but the space surrounding the machines would make them far less noticeable.
Planning a Bathroom Addition in Kirkwood
An unusable corner of this basement would be transformed into a full bath to include a decorative sink, warm shower, new toilet, beautiful lighting, and brand new basement windows. The existing plumbing would be modified and re-routed to be less of an obstruction and to make room for the new bathroom.
Insulating Basement Walls in Kirkwood, MO
Before framing the basement, our friends at Dr. Energy Saver St. Louis air sealed the rim joists with spray foam insulation to prevent warm, humid outside air from invading the dry, finished basement (or cold outside air causing drafts and making upper level floors cold). Instead of using wood to frame the basement, Woods Basement Systems used metal framing that won't be damaged by mold. To insulate the basement walls, SilverGlo insulation panels were installed to create a insulation-radiant barrier combination that keeps the basement warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
Radiant Barrier & Drainage System in Basement Bathroom
In tighter areas where the updated plumbing ran along the basement walls, the ThermalDry Wall system was used to create a radiant barrier/wall drainage system combination to keep the new bathroom comfortable and drain water from any future wall cracks into the sump pump. New, energy-efficient windows were also installed to brighten up the bathroom.
Preparing the Basement for a Wet Bar
The crew frames and insulates the area that will become the wet bar and entertainment room. Woods would later add waterproof and mold-resistant walls, floors, and a drop ceiling.
TripleSafe Sump Pump System Keeps Finished Basement Dry All The Time
Woods installed a TripleSafe sump pump system, so the finished basement would stay dry all the time. The TripleSafe includes dual DC-powered pumps for double protection during pump failure or heavy rain, and it includes a third battery-backup sump pump in case of power outages. Woods built walls around the sump pump system, creating a convenient storage closet and effectively placing the sump out of sight.
Basement Flooring in Kirkwood
To create a thermal break and vapor barrier for the new basement floor, Woods installed ThermalDry floor tiles. ThermalDry floors provide a water-resistant and durable, long-lasting solution for basement flooring. And the tiles look great, too!
Drop Ceiling Installation in Kirkwood Basement
After the walls are installed, framing the drop ceiling begins. A drop ceiling includes a lightweight steel grid that supports ceiling tiles and light fixtures. Woods later installed Total Basement Finishing Ceiling Tiles that are water-resistant and have a 30-year warranty against mold and mildew.
Basement Walls Transformed in Kirkwood
With the plumbing in place, the wiring ran, the walls up and insulated, and baseboard and ceiling trim completed, only the ceiling tiles remained to be installed. This basement transformation would be complete in no time.
Bright, Mold-Resistant Drop Ceiling
To top off the project, Total Basement Finishing Ceiling Tiles were installed with bright lighting, which made a once damp, dark space a warm and cozy environment.
Safari-Themed Basement Entertainment Room
The dark, unusable storage space is transformed into a bright, cozy living space. In this case, a safari-themed entertainment room welcomes guests.
Comfortable Basement
The brighter space is more comfortable and perfect for lounging and reading. The basement ceiling is white, the walls are a bright, neutral color, and the parquet flooring offers a warm contrast.
Basement Entertainment Room
No entertainment room is complete without a bar. The professional photos hanging on the walls also create an art gallery-like aesthetic.
Zebra-Striped Wet Bar
The homeowner had previously purchase a zebra-striped wet bar and wanted to include it in her new basement. Woods Basement Systems was happy to accommodate, and the results are amazing.
Basement Wet Bar
Behind the bar sits a vintage sink. Woods also included the sink in the basement remodel at the homeowners request, enhancing the bar and making it a wet bar.
Basement Café
What used to just be storage space for period dress and the laundry room was transformed into a basement café. The café includes a sink, countertops and overhead cabinets, and a place for the washer and dryer.
Finished Basement Bathroom
The plumbing in the basement was re-routed and updated to make room for a bright and beautiful new bathroom.
Leopard-Themed Basement Bathroom
The new windows and lighting in the basement bathroom make it much brighter.
