Photo Album: Perimeter Drainage System and New Sump Pump System
Many homes will often experience water leaks where the basement walls meet the floor. This is because there is a tiny gap between the wall and the floor from the construction of the house. As water builds up in the ground beneath the home, it can rise into this gap and enter the home. This was the case for this home in Altamont, IL.
To fix this problem, Woods Basement Systems installer Clint W. upgraded their waterproofing system with a new perimeter drainage system and sump pump. The first thing that Clint installed was WaterGuard™, a perimeter drainage system that gets installed along the wall beneath the floor. From this location, WaterGuard™ can collect the water that rises from beneath the home before it can reach the basement floor. It also has a built-in wall gap that allows it to collect water that leaks through the walls before it can drip down onto the floor. WaterGuard™ can also work in conjunction with other waterproofing systems to carry water to the sump pump system. Clint used this feature to connect a WellDuct, which drained water from a window well before it could build up and leak inside around the window, to the sump pump system.
Once WaterGuard™ was installed, Clint upgraded their sump pump system with a TripleSafe™. The TripleSafe™ features two powerful main pumps that can expell water from the home in even the toughest conditions. In the event of a power outage when the first two pumps can't operate, a third, battery-powered pump can kick in to keep the basement dry and protected. These three pumps are all contained in a single sump liner, which features an air-tight lid that will prevent water from evaporating out of the sump pit and into the basement air. The lid also has a WaterWatch™ alarm that can alert homeowners to dangerously high water levels or leaks that come from inside the home, like a plumbing leak.
As a final touch, Clint added a Sedona dehumidifier. The Sedona will wring the air dry, which will not only make the basement air feel more comfortable, but will also help combat mold growth and dust mite populations throughout the home. An extra bonus; the Sedona will also help make the home more energy efficient, reducing the cost on the homeowners to condition the air in the home.
With WaterGuard™ directing any leaks to the TripleSafe™ before they can get into the basement, and a Sedona keeping the air equally dry, this home will be protected against leaks and floods and will feel comfortable and usable.
WaterGuard™ Beneath the Floor
WaterGuard™ is installed in a trench dug in the floor along the wall. Once installation is complete, the floor is recovered in fresh concrete, hiding the system from view. Inspection ports like the one in this corner will still allow technicians to perform maintenance inspections.
WaterGuard™ Around the Corner
WaterGuard™ is versatile enough to be installed along corners such as this, as well as around other objects that might be in the way like plumbing lines or water heaters for example.
Versatile Installation
WaterGuard™ is an adaptable system that can be installed around and beneath obstacles like these stairs. This will ensure that the perimeter drainage system doesn't have any breaks where water can still leak inside.
Leaking Window
Water can often build up in window wells such as this, where it presses against the window until it leaks inside.
WellDuct™ into WaterGuard™
This WellDuct™ will drain water from the window well outside before it reaches the level of the window. Any water it drains will be poured into the WaterGuard™ system so it can be carried to the sump pump.
Window Well Drainage and WaterGuard™
To prevent water from leaking in through the window, a WellDuct™ is installed beneath the window. The WellDuct™ will drain water from the window well before it can build up. This water gets directed into the sump pump thanks to the special wall gap built in to the WaterGuard™ system.
TripleSafe™ Behind a Sedona
This Sedona dehumidifier will wring the air dry and dump any water it collects into the TripleSafe™ sump pump system behind it. This water, along with the water from the WaterGuard™ perimeter drainage system, will be pumped out of the home by the three powerful pumps in the TripleSafe™.
