Air Sealing Attic Flu in Collinsville, IL
Dr. Energy Saver’s foreman Jim corrected this fire hazard by air sealing the flu with sheet metal and high temperature caulk, as shown below. While they were there, they also performed a complete attic air seal, which now prevents conditioned air from leaking up into the attic.

Attic Piping Need Covers to Prevent Fires
Having a "hot pipe" that is not properly covered can be quite a fire hazard in your attic. This metal chimney flue was surrounded by fiberglass insulation. Do you see the black discolored fiberglass? That discoloration was caused by heat.
Duct Repair in Collinsville, IL
Luckily, Jim was able to vent the two second story bathroom exhaust fans through the gable on the North side of the home. Since there were no existent gable vents on the home, Jim created these penetrations and connected the two ends with insulated flexible ductwork. This photo shows the ventilation duct lying among the blown fiberglass insulation, and being vented through the gable wall. Jim and his crew also insulated that gable wall with spray foam insulation, sealing any leaky areas, and also sealing around both ends of the ventilation duct.
