3 Tips to Cleaner Air at Home

Indoor air quality is important to the health of your home and family. Unfortunately, there are several threats to indoor air quality. We have the solutions to keep your home healthy.

1. Moisture Control

While some humidity is needed in the air, too much moisture will cause many problems for your home. Moisture makes organic surfaces an easier meal for mold spores. It also keeps allergens, such as dust mites, alive because they absorb water from the air around them. High moisture is hard on the air conditioning unit as well. Air conditioning units must dry the air before they can cool or heat it. A dehumidifier, like the SaniDry, will help with moisture control. It not only removes moisture but also has a filter that can catch allergens and mold spores in the air.

2. Radon Testing

Radon is a naturally occurring gas. It is formed by the breakdown of uranium in the dirt. When it reaches the surface of the Earth, it is released. In open air, this isn’t a problem because the gas cannot build up. In your home however, the gas cannot move away and builds up, making it poisonous. There is no way to know if a home is at risk without testing. One home could have a problem with radon and the neighbor could not, so every home needs to test.

3. Crawl Space Encapsulation

The stack effect causes air to be pulled up through the floors and walls from the level below it. This means that up to 50% of the air you are breathing is coming from below. If your crawl space is dirty, wet, and full of allergens and mold, that means the air above has all of that in it.  A crawl space encapsulation will clean the air of the crawl space by decreasing the water vapor and closing the crawl space from outside air. Moisture control in the crawl space is just as important as the living areas of the home.
