Fast and Furriest 5K Run
Over the weekend, Woods Basement Systems’ public relations and events coordinator, Kim Sletten, completed her fourth 5K (3.1 miles), second just in the month of April, with a time of 33:09. She finished in the top 37 percent for females, the top 33 percent overall, and the top 25 percent for her age group.
The April 24th 5K was organized by the Animal Protective Association of Missouri, “a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing people and pets together, advancing humane education and creating programs beneficial to the human/animal bond.” The race was designed for pet owners and their dogs to be able to run together. The organization also hosted a one-mile pooch poker walk at the same time.
“It was so great to run the 5K in support of this wonderful organization that helps so many animals in our community. The crowd was absolutely invigorating, and I so enjoyed seeing all the four-legged, furry kids running along with their families,” Sletten said. “My goal is to medal in a 5K at least once before I turn 30, so hopefully I will place even better next year!”
The APA is an independent not-for-profit organization that takes in nearly 3000 animals every year. They are funded by shelter and clinic fees, donations, special events, and grants from other local organizations.
