What NOT to do in Your Crawl Space
These are all “crawl space no-no’s” that should never happen in your crawl space. They could cause rot, mold, or even cause your energy bills to be higher than they should be.
- Don’t put a vapor barrier or rigid insulation board on the ceiling of your crawl space.
- Don’t close outside vents without sealing off the earth.
- Don’t seal the earth without permanently closing the outside vents.
- Never use a fan to blow outside air into your crawl space.
- Never use a fan to blow air out of your crawl space.
- Don’t install a liner or concrete without removing organic material from the dirt floor first (wood, cardboard, insulation, etc).
- Don’t depressurize a space that has combustion appliances.
- Don’t run your dryer vent into your crawl space.
- Don’t ignore the problem—get it taken care of ASAP!
