Dirt Crawl Spaces are Bad for Your Health

Mold loves to grow in dirt crawl spaces.  And there isn’t a doctor out there that will say mold in your home is a good thing.  Having mold in your home irritates people with asthma and mold allergies and can even cause asthma if exposed to for a long period of time.

The number one indoor allergen that people with asthma and allergies react to is dust mite droppings.  Dust mites are microscopic parasites that live off of the skin flakes that you shed throughout your home.  They live in your bedding, carpet, and furniture.  Their droppings float through the air, where they can easily be inhaled and aggravate allergies and asthma.

Dust mites absorb water from the air.  They require over 50% relative humidity in order to survive.  Even though dust mites don’t live in your dirt crawl space, they still like it, because dirt crawl spaces produce humid air.  It is very difficult to keep the air in your home dry when you have a dirt crawl space, which is the perfect environment for dust mites to thrive upon.

In order to eliminate the dust mites, your crawl space must be sealed off from the earth.  This dries out the air that flows upward into your home, causing the dust mites to dry out and die.  This will also get rid of their droppings, making your home a much more enjoyable place for those with allergies and asthma.
