Two Types of Foundation Problems

Vertical Movement

When the soil under your home shifts or shrinks, your foundation (or parts of it) will settle.  If the whole foundation settles evenly, you won’t notice anything.  But most often, one part of your hoe settles more than another part, causing cracks in your foundation.  These vertical cracks often appear in brick walls or coming off the corners of doors and windows.

Horizontal Movement

When the soil outside of your foundation wall expands, it can cause your foundation to move horizontally.  Foundation walls are not built to move inward, so they crack, bow, and lean in when this occurs.  In extreme cases, they may even slide in completely.  These walls are supposed to be supporting your entire home and everyone in it, and it’s not a good sign when they aren’t even standing up straight anymore.

Woods Basement Systems, Inc. offers products to repair each of these foundation problems, including push piers and wall anchors.
