Mold Can Still Grow in a Waterproofed Basement

Mold requires organic material to grow, such as wood or other building materials in your home, along with high relative humidity.  It doesn’t necessarily have to be wet in order for mold to grow—just humid.  In fact, mold won’t grow underwater.

High relative humidity is considered to be 60 to 70%.  A SaniDry XP Basement Air System consistently keeps the relative humidity below 50% all year long.

“Mold experts” that tell you to coat your floor joists and other structural elements with anti-mold paint aren’t helping you in the long run.  The only way to eliminate mold completely is by getting rid of the water and humidity.

Along with preventing mold and keeping your basement air dry, the SaniDry XP also lowers cooling costs for your home.  This is because damp air takes more energy to cool, and therefore takes more money.  The SaniDry XP dries the air, which makes it easier for your air conditioning unit to cool the air.

Keeping the air in your home dry is the only way to prevent mold throughout your home.  The air in your basement flows upward to the rest of the home, so it is important to ensure that air is completely dry to prevent mold growth.
