Waterproofing Your Basement Windows
If there is water outside of a basement window, it will most likely leak into the basement. There are more options besides the obvious fixing the gutters or extending the downspouts. The most important thing is that you find a solution because otherwise it will keep happening and only get worse.
The best solution is to install a drain from the window well to the perimeter drainage system around your basement that leads to the sump pump. A simple system called a WellDuct will do just that. A WellDuct is a vertical extension of the WaterGuard system that drains water from the window well before the window leaks if water rises in the well.
A hole is drilled through the basement wall just under the windowsill. Then a grate is installed on the outside over the hole. The WellDuct itself is installed on the inside of the basement wall.
If water rises in the well it goes through the grate, through the wall, down the WellDuct, through the inside drainage system and to the sump pump. It is then carried out and away from your home, resulting in a dry basement.
