Waterproofing Your Basement Walls
Most people waterproof their basement around the perimeter of the floor and think the job is done. However, once you’ve waterproofed your basement and drained away all of the water at your basement floor, the next thing you’ll want to address is the walls.
Basement walls allow water vapor to pass through them. Especially block walls, which have a hollow core that allows cold and damp outside air to pass through them easily. Even stone walls allow air, water, and water vapor to pass through them.
If your basement walls are damp, stained, flaky, and ugly, there are numerous options to choose from to solve the problem, including coatings, paneling, and vapor barriers. Coatings aren’t the best option simply because they don’t stay on the wall for very long as the water vapor pushes them off over time. This results in more peeling on the wall and creates even more of an eyesore than before.
Products such as ZenWall, BrightWall, or CleanSpace walls are a much better solution in keeping your basement permanently dry.
