The Dangers of Radon
Radon is a fairly common tasteless and odorless radioactive gas that comes from radium deposits in the earth. If there are radium deposits present in the soil under your home, it can get sucked into your house through the basement or crawl space.
Radon gas decays into radioactive particles that can get trapped in your lungs when you breathe. As they continue to break down, they release small bursts of energy, which can damage lung tissue and lead to lung cancer if exposed to for a long period of time. It is an extremely dangerous gas, but it is easy to get rid of.
Gaps, cracks, and holes in the basement floor and walls can be sealed to get rid of radon without compromising the waterproofing system. Radon mitigation systems have been proven to greatly reduce the relative humidity of basements, reducing bad odors and improving the overall comfort of the basement.
Natural soil gases and toxic compounds can travel into your home the same way radon does. A radon system reduces those gases as well. It is important to have your home tested for radon before any damages to your family’s health occur.
