The Importance of Trench Drains
If you have doorways or stairways that are outside, installing a trench drain is extremely important. A trench drain is a half round pipe with a grate that sits on top of it. The grate is flush or slightly below the floor level to catch any water that may enter from the outside.
You should have the trench drain installed at the same time as your waterproofing system, such as WaterGuard. It’s easy to convert from WaterGuard along the perimeter of the basement floor to the trench drain and back to WaterGuard again on the other side because they are designed to be compatible with each other. Also, there is no extra cost to get the trench drain installed if you are having a WaterGuard system installed
Trench drains are important because they prevent any leakage from a sliding door or even a garage door from entering your home. Even if your outside door doesn’t currently leak, all it takes is the right kind of snow, slush, or heavy rain for it to happen. It’s better to be proactive and get your home completely waterproofed before any damages occur.
