Why a SmartJack Crawl Space Stabilizer is a Smart Idea

Do the floors above your crawl space seem bouncy, soft, or unlevel?  How much longer will the floor be able to support the weight of what’s on it?  This problem can be a nuisance, and if it’s not taken care of, it can only get worse.

SmartJack

There are several causes of sagging floors, including the existing block or brick columns being spaced too far apart.  These columns are located throughout the crawl space to support the weight of the structure above.  If there is too much space between each column, the beam can become overloaded and sag between the columns.  This causes the floor above it to sag, too.

Weakened floor joists and girders are another cause of sagging floors.  Oftentimes, crawl spaces are not separated and sealed from the earth, so excess moisture and humidity becomes a problem.  The moisture causes the wood to rot and become weak, resulting in a saggy floor due to the floor joists being unable to support the weight above it.

Yet another cause of sagging floors is the existing columns settling in the crawl space due to weak soil.  When the columns sink into the weak soil, it creates a gap between the top of the column and the bottom of the girder it is supposed to be supporting.  This causes the girder to sag, resulting in the floors above it to sag, as well.

So what can be done about this problem?  The smart solution is to install a SmartJack Crawl Space Stabilizer to solve the problem once and for all.  The SmartJack is the best solution because it can support more than 60,000 pounds, it’s adjustable, and it’s the only solution that addresses problem soils.

These steel support systems are used to stabilize and level the girders and floor joists in a crawl space, lifting the floor above back toward its original position.  The SmartJack system can also be installed in conjunction with the CleanSpace crawl space encapsulation system.  Not only does this solve your saggy floor problems, it also restores the property value of your home!
