Home Efficiency Made Easy in Chesterfield, MO
Challenge
Home comfort and efficiency is very important to homeowners Rich and Kim. But their attic disagrees. Conditoned air was making its way to the attic, warm air in the winter and cold air in the summer, leaking out instead of maintaining temperatures in the home. This was not only making Rich and Kim's living conditions uncomfortable, but also severly reducing efficiency in the home.
Solution
After calling Dr. Energy Saver and getting a free Home Energy Check-up, a solution was found. Covers needed to be installed over the can light fixtures in the attic, then air sealed to stop the exfiltration of conditoned air into the attic. This also allowed for insulation to be installed around the lights.
Blown cellulose attic insulation was put into the attic to improve the thermal boundary between the attic and the conditioned space and an insulated, air tight block was placed around the attic access to air seal the opening and provide a dam to contain the insulation.
Each bathroom fan needed to have a roof vent installed and connected to the exhaust fan to move exhausted air outside of the attic. This helps keep the air flow of the house steady.
