Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Keeping Walls Dry with WellDuct™ and WaterGuard™
Water was leaking into this basement in Salem, IL. through the tiny cracks around the window, as well as through small gaps in the concrete walls. This water would seap through the walls and puddle up on the floor, causing water damage to the floors, walls and any objects nearby.
To protect this basement, a system needed to be installed that would prevent the water from leaking inside and redirecting it to the sump pump system instead. The first step was to install a drainage system that would take that water from where it leaks in to where it gets pumped out. For this, a WellDuct™ was installed below the window to drain the window well before it could fill up with water and leak into the basement. The WellDuct™ works by installing a drain in the window well that connects to a covered channel inside the home. This channel will allow the water to flow down beneath the floor without escaping into the basement space at all.
Beneath the floor, WaterGuard™ is installed to pick up the water from the WellDuct™ - as well as from beneath the floor - and carry it to the sump pump system. WaterGuard™ is a perimeter drainage system that gets installed on top of the footing where it can collect water that rises up from beneath the home before it can rise to the level of the floor. WaterGuard™ also features an extension that reaches up against the wall, which can collect water that leaks through the walls and can work with other waterproofing systems such as the WellDuct™ system and CleanSpace™. With WaterGuard™, leaks through the wall and leaks from beneath the floor will all be taken care of and any water that would otherwise enter the home is instead taken to the sump pupm and expelled from the home.
Now that this home is protected by WaterGuard™ and a WellDuct™, it will be safe from water leaks both from beneath the floor and from through the walls and window. With the addition of CleanSpace™ along troublesome walls, wall leaks will never be a concern again.
First WellDuct™
This WellDuct™ will drain water from beneath the window before it has the chance to rise up to the window's level and leak inside.
WaterGuard™ Beneath Partition Wall
WaterGuard™ is installed along exterior walls as that is where leaking is most likely. Here, WaterGuard™ was installed going beneath a partition wall so that there was no gap in protection where the partition instersected the foundation wall.
Covered WaterGuard™ Trench
After WaterGuard™ is installed in the trench around the foundation wall, that trench is filled back in with smooth stone and fresh concrete is poured over top to make the floor smooth and whole again.
Second WellDuct™
The WellDuct™ system has a slim design that allows it to be hidden behind things like finished walls, plumbing pipes or even a washer and dryer.
Drainage Trench
In places where WaterGuard™ can't be installed, a drainage trench is installed to connect WaterGuard™ to other waterproofing systems and the sump pump.
