Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Waterproofing and Wall Support
This Carbondale, IL. home had experienced issues with water leaks where the wall and the floor meet, as well as leaks in cracks in the wall caused by inward bowing walls. To fix these issues, the homeowner turned to Woods Basement Systems to support the bowing walls and stop the leaks in the basement.
To address the cracked and bowing walls, foreman Dave P. and his crew installed a series of wall anchors that would support and straighten the wall. The wall anchors work by burying an anchor plate outside in the compact soil and connecting it to an interior plate with a steel rod. This connection is then tightened, which pulls the interior plate - and the wall - into a straight and supported position.
With the wall supported and stable, Dave P. could then focus on dealing with the leaking water issues. Water can often leak into the basement through the tiny gap between the floor and the walls. As the ground beneath the home gets saturated, water levels rise and water begins to seep into that tiny gap from below. To prevent it from reaching the surface of the floor, WaterGuard™ was installed just on top of the footing just beneath the level of the floor. WaterGuard™ is installed on top of the footing, rather than next to it, is to keep the drainage system out of the mud. Unlike other systems that sit next to the footing in the mud, WaterGuard™ will not need filters as it will be out of reach of mud and dirt. This means WaterGuard™ won't clog like other systems do when their filters become caked with mud.
WaterGuard™ will collect the water rising from below, as well as any water that might leak down the walls, and directs it to the sump pump system so that it can be removed from the home. This combination of wall anchors and WaterGuard™ will keep this basement dry and supported permanently, making concerns of collapsing walls and leaky floors a thing of the past.
Wall Support with Wall Anchors
This metal plate is the interior portion of the wall anchor system. It is capapble of strengthening the wall and even straightening bowed walls. Plus, its slim design makes it easy to conceal behind a wall or in a cover.
Sump Pump
This sump pump will collect water from the WaterGuard™ system as well as directly from the ground around it and pump it out and away from the home.
Sump Pump with WaterGuard
This sump pump is located in a corner that is protected by WaterGuard™. WaterGuard™ will collect water before it can rise above the surface of the floor, as well as water that drips down the wall, and dumps it in the sump pump to be removed from the house.
IceGuard™ Discharge Line
Water that gets pumped out by the sump pump will pass through this IceGuard™ attachment. IceGuard™ is specially designed to allow water to continue to be expelled from the sump pump when the other end of the discharge line is blocked or frozen shut.
