Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Taking Water Out of the Air and Back Outside
Basements can often feel damp and uncomfortable. This is because of the water vapor in the air. This water vapor can not only make the basement air feel damp, but can also condense on cooler surfaces like walls or air vents where it can drip down onto objects in the basement, cause damage and support mold growth.
To deal with this problem, a Sedona dehumidifier was installed. This dehumidifier will wring the air dry by removing up to 12 gallons of water from the air per day. The air is also filtered, removing mold spores and even dust mite droppings. Cleaner, drier air will make the basement feel better and be safer from water damage and mold growth.
Once water is pulled out of the air, the Sedona drains it into the TripleSafe™ sump pump system. The TripleSafe™ is a high end sump pump system that features three seperate pumps that can turn on individually or together to keep the basement dry even during incredibly heavy rains. The third of the three pumps is battery powered, allowing it to turn on even if the power goes out and the first two pumps can't work. The TripleSafe™ also features an air-tight lid so that any water in the sump pit can't evaporate back into the basement air again.
As the water gets pumped out of the TripleSafe™ it travels through two discharge lines. These dual lines allow the multiple pumps in the TripleSafe™ to operate at the highest capacity they can. If there was only one discharge line then the pumps would only be able to drain as much water as that one line could carry.
These two lines carry the water outside through the IceGuard™ attachment. IceGuard™ is a specially designed pipe segment that will allow water to escape from the discharge line in the event that the end of the line gets blocked or frozen shut. If the end of the discharge line gets frozen shut or clogged the water from the sump pump would have nowhere to go and would back up into the sump pit and eventually flood the basement. With the IceGuard™ attachment, this won't happen as any water that gets backed up to the IceGuard™ system will pour out of the spaces instead of backing up into the sump pit.
With the Sedona, TripleSafe™ and IceGuard™ systems in place, water vapor in the air will be drained into the sump pump and pumped outside where it won't cause any damage to the home.
Sedona Dehumidifier
This dehumidifier unit can drain 100 pints of water a day using the same amount of power as a 40-pint-per-day dehumidifier.
Sedona Draining into TripleSafe™
The air-tight lid of the TripleSafe™ has a special port to allow a hose from the Sedona dehumidifier to drain water from the air into the sump pump. Once in the pit, the water will get pumped out of the home by the TripleSafe's™ three powerful pumps.
Dual Discharge Lines
The TripleSafe™ uses two seperate lines to expell water from the sump pit. Just one discharge line wouldn't be able to handle the volume of water that the TripleSafe™ can pump out.
IceGuard™ Outside
The water from the two discharge lines passes through the IceGuard™ attachment before entering a larger single line. By passing through the IceGuard™, this drainage line is protected against clogging of freezing and backing up into the sump pump.
