Domestic Flood Protection
Most often we deal with ground water seepage, but so many times we see basements flooded from other sources. Leaking water heaters and washing machine hoses account for tens of thousands of flooded basement each year.
When a water heater leaks, an unlimited supply of water under pressure will flood the basement. A standard 3/8" washer hose that bursts at 70 psi, will shoot out up to 650 gallons per hour. If these disasters happen when nobody is home to notice, they can fill a basement up right to the top!
When we are called to investigate a wet basement for a new customer, in many cases it is not groundwater at all, but a water heater or washing machine hose leaking.
We have 2 step program to prevent these potential disasters.
FLOODRING
FloodRing Water Tank Protection System
How can you tell when your hot water tank is about to die? You don't usually get any warning at all!
The average life of a water heater is 7 years and when it fails a pressurized, unlimited amount of water leaks all over your basement floor. Cold water storage tanks continuously drip onto your floor in the summer from unending condensation. Now there is a solution. FloodRing!
The FloodRing was designed in a unique semi-circle shape so it can be installed without disturbing the water heater or well tank. Two sections of the FloodRing System are joined with screws through the pre-molded flanges. The system is adhered to the floor creating a watertight seal.
The FloodRing System drains into the patented WaterGuard basement waterproofing systems. When the water heater leaks, the FloodRing contains the flooding and drains the water away through our waterproofing system into our sump pump, where it will be removed.
Now, you can rest easy knowing you are protected!
FLOODCHEK
FloodChek Washing Machine Hoses
No matter how many times we are reminded, people always forget to shut off the water valves when they're not doing laundry. This means their washer hoses remain pressurized at 60 to 80 pounds. Upon failure, up to 650 gallons per hour can shoot out of one 3/8" hose. At 8.33 pounds per gallon, that's more than 2 1/2 tons of water per hour!
The damage can be incredible when people are away. Imagine how much water can escape in 3 days. One lady we know was away for a week, and her basement filled up to the windows! Another couple had their second floor washing machine hoses burst and the water running down through the first floor ceilings and ultimately into the basement caused $40,000 worth of damage.
Consumer grade hoses that come with washing machines and their equivalent replacements are of minimum quality. Under good conditions they last no more than 4 or 5 years.
Shutting off the water valves when the washer is not in use can greatly reduce the potential for water damage. But if the pressure's going to be on at all times, you need hoses that can take it. FloodChek hoses are the finest washing machine inlet hoses in the world.
